had a special poem that she wished to share with us. The poem was called "Christmas in Heaven". See the poetry section of the Latch to read this beautiful poem.
Rev. Vais then continued
with the Scripture Reading, John 1: 1 - 5, followed by the meditation,
"Light in Darkness".
The significance of the
Candles followed the meditation. Rev. Vais read: "The candles at the front of the Sanctuary represent all those who have died. The ones held by the families represent all of us who have been left behind."
Each person was given a
candle as they entered the Sanctuary and Rev. Vais invited everyone who wished to light a candle to come forward. In total 74 candles were lit in memory of a loved one.
When all the candles were
lit, and everyone was in their seats, Rev. Vais continued with a prayer and then we listened as Jack Stubbs sang "O Holy Night". You could hear a pin drop through all the silence as Jack sang. We then concluded the service with the Hymn, "Silent Night" followed by the benediction.
The Service was very
touching and meaninful to all. Our hope is to continue this special service each year and our hope is that all who have not attended in the past will concider it another year.
Everyone was then
welcome to join together in the Upper Hall for a time of fellowship and light refreshments.
We would like to thank the
members of the Caledonia Presbyterian Church Sr. Choir, the 9:00am Choir from St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church and members of The Baptist Church who participated in the service.

A Good Samaratan and Christmas
On a cold December
morning an older man was walking past a local fast food restaurant. As he peered in be noticed a young man appeared to have his head face down on the table. Part curiosity and part concern drew the older man inside. It was then he noticed the young man just had his head very close to some papers he seemed to be having problems with. The papers turned out to be a job application to work in the restaurant.
Thinking the young man
was struggling with a difficult word or two, the older man quietly approached him and offered his help. The young man replied to the offer, saying, "I can understand the question alright but I'm having problems reading the questions". Perhaps
you should have your eyes checked, you may need glasses offered the older man, to which the young man answere, "I probably do, but, you see I need a job to save the money that I need to save to pay for them".
Concerned for the young
man's well being the older man saw to it that he received a proper eye examination and following that the eventual purchasing of glasses. Thus the young mand was able to not only hold his head high, but, eventually get a small job, just in time for Christmas.
We all know both of these
people you see, the good samaraton exists in all of us, its the good in us coming out. The young person is always out there--
I guess that is kind of
what Christmas is all about, just from a different perspective.

Signed
One of You.
